Gluten Free Boom Chicka Pop Sea Salt Popcorn

Health Values: Gluten free, vegan, non-GMO, no trans fats, no artificial flavors, whole grain

As a general rule, I’m not a fan of packaged popcorn. They usually contain too many unnatural flavors or too much salt. They take a natural product and turn it into something almost unrecognizable. (Just compare most packaged popcorns to Whole Foods’ organic popcorn kernels that you hot-air pop at home – now that’s purity and true corn flavor!)

But recently I got a small 2 oz.snack  bag as a trial, so I decided to give it a try. Needless to say, my critical eye was wide open.

It didn’t need to be. This is the best packaged popcorn I’ve ever tried. After finishing the small bag, I was hankering for more.

The ingredient list is simple: popcorn, sunflower oil, and sea salt. Simple and natural, just the way I like it…though it’s not always easy to find.

While no packaged popcorn can have the ultra-crispness of fresh air-popped popcorn, and you certainly can’t get that true corn taste like the organic kernels have, this is a great next-in-line if you want premade popcorn.

The sea salt adds just the right amount of flavor without being overpowering or gritty. It’s evenly distributed among the popcorn pieces and you don’t end up with fingertips coated with salt when you get to the bottom of the bag. And best of all, you don’t get that nasty oily after-taste that some popcorns have. In fact, you don’t taste anything beyond the popcorn and light sea salt.

And I think that’s just the way it should be.
